    High Radial Load: Occurs when the machine feed rate is too fast for the material being cut or when high feeds are pushing a tool with chipped or very dull cutting edges. This is determined by the failure of the first of the front bearing pair.

    High Axial Load: Occurs when the spindle suffers a high axial impact, such as plunging into the material rather than ramping in, or crashing into the work table. This failure is determined by the failure of the second of the front bearing pair.

    Imbalance: Failures occur when the tooling used is not properly balanced or exceeds the recommended advised tool dimensions or weight limitations. This failure symptom is observed in the damage to the rear bearing pair.

    Operative Actuation: The failure that occurs when the piston of the pneumatic actuator contacts the draw-bar while the spindle is still rotating. This can be caused by operator or programming errors.

    The failure or adjustment of the proximity sensors to read the position of the draw-bar or the sensor or relay that senses shaft motion can also cause it.

    Another possible cause is contamination of the pneumatic actuator or the exhaust muffler of the actuator. This failure is determined by the witness marks on the end faces of the actuator piston rod and the draw-bar nut.

    Shorted Winding: This failure normally occurs when the spindle is not receiving the proper input power. In most cases, it is a result of the parameters of the frequency inverter not corresponding properly to the electrical characteristics of the spindle.

    This is normally determined by conferring with the customer.

    Spindle Repair

    Tool Sticking In Taper: This is normally due to the transfer of heat caused by an over sized tool. It can also be caused by an improper ejection stroke of the draw-bar due to contamination in the actuator or broken springs in the draw-bar assembly. This is normally determined by the examination of the drawbar.

    Tool Slipping In Taper: This is normally due to the transfer of heat from long heavy cuts, resulting in a thermally expanded or contracted tool taper. It can also be caused by an improper ejection stroke of the draw-bar due to contamination within the pneumatic actuator or broken springs in the draw-bar assembly. This is normally determined by the examination of the draw-bar.

    Crash: This is normally caused by operator or programming errors. This failure occurs when the spindle is driven into the worktable or surrounding components on robot applications. This is determined by the physical damage of the shaft taper and spindle body.

    Operative Actuation: The failure that occurs when the piston of the pneumatic actuator contacts the draw-bar while the spindle is still rotating.

    Mori Seiki Ball Screw Repair

    NNG has become North Americas leading experts in Mori Seiki Ball Screw Repair; after all it's one of the best made and most common machines in the industry. Some of the problems we see in Mori Seiki Ball Screws is that they get pitted and loose in one section from the most used area in your production runs yet when you go further down the tail stock, tolerances get back to normal. Or after the years its develop rust and corrosion from sitting in coolant.

    Do not order a new Mori Seiki Ball Screw, let NNG repair or exchange your unit in the Same or 3 days. NNG can and save you 50-70% possibly more from buying a new unit. Plus, you'll have a 4-year full service warranty on your Mori Seiki ballscrew covering all parts and labor.

    Our Procedure:

    NNG starts with a complete disassembly of your Mori Seiki ballscrew then the we check for straightness and repair as needed we will then precision grind your Mori Seiki Ball Screw till 100% clean to eliminate all uneven wear, in some cases others it may be perfectly fine and just need electro polishing. The correct method to servicing unit is to fully grind the raceways and let them spark out measure with our optical indicators to make sure all low and uneven spots are ground correctly. Now that your Mori Seiki Ballscrew is Straightened, and Correctly Ground we can re-harden screw back to spec and electro polish screw for smoothness. Also if bearing areas are worn the affected areas will be ground sprayed and ground back to ABEC specifications

    Next step is to grind ballnut to match your screw NNG will grind (+/- .0002) till true clean up is reached now that both components are prepared for assembly the returns tubes will be inspected for any corrections repairs or replacement. Replacement will be done in house or we just might have them on our shelf. After that we can reassemble and install the unit with the correct oversize balls to compensate for what was ground off screw and nut assembly. Following the assembly NNG WILL lap the entire Mori Seiki ballscrew unit in with special compounds disassemble and clean after corrections are made and reinstall a fresh set of correct size grade 10 chrome steel balls.
